Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Group
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.
Note: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 show why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Schemers tables.
Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
