In a surprising collaboration that challenges traditional expectations, the game developer has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, offering free additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Adventure Uncovered

According to the official statement, "An unusual meeting leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where whispers of forbidden ceremonies and monstrous transformations echo through the obscurity." The plot introduces a "oddly garbed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a secret sect.

The adventure centers on "bizarre tests and a fearsome enemy" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Iconic Locations and Metamorphoses

The teaser highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer ends with a powerful moment showing a character, presumably the captive, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Extra Content

Players who successfully complete the adventure will acquire an unique katana alongside multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also features purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Special implements
• Survey Corps mount

Newest Free Story Update

This update also brings the game's newest no-cost story content, titled "A Puzzlement." This humorous quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic techniques: Naoe introduces a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns non-fatal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some lingering questions from the main storyline.

This represents hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with popular anime properties. The series formerly showcased a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly featured a quest that obviously echoed the well-known series One-Punch Man.
