2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Transition Comes After Lukewarm Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to address player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

This announcement mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”

Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, he officially joins us on next week.

His guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Brinkman presently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
